Little Tikes Slide

Thanks Papa & Nani for bringing over the little tikes slide last weekend! Lucas may never play with another toy again. He loves saying “Ready, Set, GO!!!”

Lucas started out by only wanting to go down the slide if Bryan & Nani were holding his hands. He quickly became brave & slid down on his own.

Plus, it was such a special moment when Lucas said “Nani” for the 1st time ever!

Morning At the Zoo

On Wednesday, we took the morning off to have fun at the Phoenix Zoo with Gigi & Jackie. The weather was a gorgeous 75 degrees with a light breeze and slightly overcast. Lucas was able to see all of the animals in person rather than in a book or on TV. He made the elephant noise when he first saw the big elephant from afar. He kept saying “turtle” when he saw the tortoise. Lucas had the biggest smile & look of amazement on his face when he saw the komodo dragon and the colorful birds. Lucas neighed when he saw the horses at the Equestrian Center. The day was perfect!

Cinderella

Last Sunday, Zoe (niece), Aunt Jenny, & I had some girl time and watched the new Cinderella movie. The movie was spectacular! The best part was spending quality time with Zoe & Jenny. Can’t wait for the next Disney princess movie to be released.

Bad Blueberries

Lucas appears to have an issue with blueberries. Just 36 hours after reintroducing blueberries, and he had 4 stools in 1 hour right before bed time. 2 stools were somewhat normal and the last 2 were explosive diarrhea. In the past, we’ve tried blueberries once before and Lucas had diarrhea within 4 days of eating blueberries. We were really hoping last time was just a fluke. Looks like Lucas has a true issue with blueberries. One less food item that Lucas can enjoy. On the bright side, Lucas does not have any issues with bananas or raspberries.

Praying Lucas got all of the blueberries out of his system and will wake up feeling better on Wednesday morning. We are suppose to have a fun morning at the zoo with Gigi and Jackie.

Blueberries

After the October stool transplant at Boston Children’s Hospital, the doctor recommended we avoid fruits. Since Lucas has gone 5 full months without a c diff recurrence, we have the green light to reintroduce fruits. Lucas loves bananas and raspberries. Today, we reintroduced blueberries. Lucas is so happy! He is such a fruit lover. In 5 more days we can try another fruit. Life is good when Lucas is doing well!

BTW – Lucas turned 22 months old on last Saturday. Plus, he received his 2nd hair cut of his life from Jackie (our amazing nanny) today. Lucas’ hair is still curly and adorable!

Peggy Update

Peggy is home and resting. This surgery was a bit easier on Peggy than the more lengthy back surgery she underwent almost exactly a year ago. This time, a piece of a slipped disc had broken off and was logged up and under a nerve. It is no surprise that Peggy was in constant pain. The broken disc piece was basically stabbing the nerve. The surgeon foresees it may take some time before the nerve repairs itself and all of the pain is gone. We are praying with every passing day Peggy’s back becomes stronger and her pain lessens.

Prayers for Peggy’s Back Surgery

Today, Peggy (aka Nani) is having a much needed back surgery to resolve a slipped disc. She is being admitted at 3pm for the surgery to start sometime between 4pm – 5pm. At the very end of December, Peggy started to feel leg and back pain. After numerous tests and imaging, an MRI finally confirmed she has a slipped disc.

I am in awe at the strength & grace Peggy has shown throughout this painful period of time. By the way, if there was an award for the World’s Best Mother In-Law, Peggy would win! She always puts others before herself. She is a perfect example of what a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and follower of Jesus Christ should be.

I would love for Peggy to be covered in prayer today. May the Lord guide the surgeon’s hands to eliminate all of the leg and back pain. Today is the marvelous day when Peggy will get her pain free body & life back. Thanks for the prayers!

Potty Chair Time

On Saturday, Lucas’ potty chair arrived. Immediately, Lucas wanted to flush the toilet to see the pretend tank water features light up and water twirl around to a real flushing sound and a cheerful yay. Over the last couple of days, we would go in the bathroom and encourage Lucas to sit on the potty chair & flush the toilet for fun.

On Tuesday evening, just when we were starting the bath water, we had Lucas sit on the potty chair for the 1st time without any clothes or diaper on. We told Lucas he was a big boy on a potty chair like Daddy. So it was time to go pee. He loved the attention and excitement. Then, he peed!!! Lucas got an abundance of cheers & praise from us. Since the chair can detect when there is liquid in the bowl, right after Lucas peed, the chair started to play musical ditties and sound effects that rewarded Lucas for going pee in the potty chair. Such a big boy moment!!!

Last night, we decided to try the same pee process just when the bath tub was being filled with water. Then, Lucas peed again in the potty chair!!! This time, he decided to touch the pee in the bowl. Next time, we’ll be quicker and avoid the pee touching moment in the process. Ha!

Choking/Coughing Episode

This morning, Lucas had a 25 minute choking/coughing episode. Basically, food gets stuck further down in his esophagus. So, he can still breath. But he is constantly coughing and even throws up until the food gets dislodged by giving Lucas water, bouncing him in our arms, or rolling him around on the ground.

The episode was a harsh reminder that even though Lucas is doing great for an EA/TEF baby, he still will have his feeding issues every once in a while. I believe this episode happened because Lucas’ molars are coming in so his teeth are sore and he isn’t chewing food as well as normal.

Feeling blessed to work from home to be with Lucas & Jackie (our amazing nanny) as we worked Lucas through the episode. It is definitely a two person job with one person holding Lucas upright while the other person pours the water into his mouth. Plus, if we needed to leave for the ER, one person needs to ensure Lucas is breathing and drinking water in the backseat while the other person drives.

Our last choking/coughing episode was a good 2 months ago. Hopefully we will have another 2 plus months before it happens again.

Thank you Lord for protecting Lucas & dislodging the food. We always feel your healing hands during these episodes.

BTW – Lucas is such a happy baby that even when food is stuck & causing pain, towards the end of the episode he smiled with joy because he loves being bounced. He’s such a blessing!

Friday Night Fun With The Grandparents

On Friday, we had a fun filled night with all of the grandparents! It felt wonderful to have a big meal together as a family. At the end of the meal, Lucas showed off his animal noises while singing to Old McDonald. Some of his favorite animals are the bear, lion, elephant, lamb, cow, snake, & bee. Lucas loved showing off by singing and dancing in his high chair. Later on, Lucas marched around the house with Gigi and played hide & go seek with Nani. Looking forward to having everyone over again soon!
